Under Construction: New Alden Yachts 58 Motor Yacht Date: April 8, 2002 Currently under construction at Alden Yachts is the 58' Motor Yacht Circe. With an expected delivery in the summer of 2002, Circe will be the first 58' motor yacht built and launched by Alden Yachts. The vacuum-bagged hull laminate will incorporate an outer skin of vinylester barrier resin with balsa core. The inner skins of the hull consist of a stitched unidirectional and bidirectional FRP. A lateral and transverse beam stringer system is used to fortify the hull and to support the boat's structures and engines. Alden Yachts' standard exterior finish is the Awl Grip® paint system creating a long-lasting, high-gloss finish on the hull. The hull comes with Alden Yachts' standard 10-year warranty against osmotic blistering. Circe's vast deck is strong and well equipped. An avid SCUBA diver, the owner specified a need for storage for tanks and other gear. Alden Yachts was able to accommodate his request and fabricated a concealed storage locker in the cockpit. The new Alden Yachts 58 will also have dual anchors and a split anchor locker. Two dorades on the forward cabin house supply the galley and dining area with a fresh air supply and contribute to the traditional exterior look. Eleven hawse pipes, including a transom centerline hawse with a built-in cleat, have been installed to provide for a variety of docking arrangements. While three large overhead hatches provide ample light for the cabins, Circe has sixteen portlights to provide more natural light and ventilation throughout the boat. The engine room provides lots of space including a workbench. Circe is powered by twin 800 horsepower Caterpillar® 3406E's. The flybridge, with steering station, has a full eisenglass enclosure and a hardtop. Two forward facing Pompanette seats provide seating for the captain and another passenger. Aft of the two Pompanette seats are two settees. An L-settee to starboard provides seating for four, while a straight settee to port seats two. A finely finished table situated between the two settees creates a comfortable atmosphere in which to sit, relax, and enjoy a snack or meal while underway. The forward guest cabin is large and well lighted. The centerline island berth has a chest of four drawers beneath it. The berth top also opens to reveal a storage space. A hanging locker to port, and a locker to starboard compliment the chest of drawers beneath the berth to create a great deal of storage for guests and their gear. Just aft of the forward guest cabin is the guest head to starboard and crew cabin to port. The head is equipped with a separate shower locker. The crew cabin serves a second purpose as the laundry room. The side by side washer and dryer are nicely concealed beneath the crew berth. A bench seat, hanging locker, and two drawers complete the functional arrangement. The galley is located to starboard just aft of the guest head. A stainless steel sink is under-hung in the granite counter top. Directly across from the galley is the dining area with L-settee and a granite table. In the main saloon area, Alden Yachts' emphasis on fine craftsmanship is evident from the beautifully finished bulkheads to the flawless joinery work. The main saloon arrangement has two forward facing desks, chairs, and filing cabinets. Aft is a large U-settee and table to starboard. To port is an extensive entertainment center built into custom cabinetry. The spacious aft owner's cabin includes a queen-sized bed accessible from either side with conveniently located nightstands on both sides. A large bank of storage lockers is built in along the starboard hull side. Two large hanging lockers are provided as well as an oversized book cabinet. An en suite head with separate stall shower is located to port. The new 58 Motor Yacht presents a very functional interior, beautifully finished in a sea-proven hull with a handsome exterior profile exquisitely executed by Alden Yachts.
