Just Launched: Alden Yachts 46 Saloon Express Date: July 30, 2003 Alden Yachts announces the launching of the 46' Saloon Express Gammon, the first saloon express built in the 40/44/46 express series. What differentiates the saloon express from the previous yachts in the series is the completely enclosed bridge deck, which allows for a greater level of finish detail in the upper saloon and an "open" transition to the lower saloon. In short, this is an amazingly elegant and roomy yacht that belies her 46-foot length. "With the completion of each and every yacht we build, we become a little bit better at what we do, and you can see that in the finished product," states David MacFarlane, President of Alden Yachts. "Over the last few years, we have built more than twenty power boats, and the level of finish and the integration of new technologies becomes more impressive with each yacht. Gammon represents the very pinnacle of custom yacht building." New technologies are not always about the latest "gadgets" either. New engineering techniques can manifest themselves in subtle ways. A perfect example is the concealed retaining system used to fasten down the teak and holly sole. There are no visible screws or bungs and access to the bilge is simple. A close look at the cabin sole also reveals an intricate 1-inch wide solid teak and holly relief around the base of the cabinets, which allows you to lift the floor boards without damaging the vertical faces. This is an elegant solution to a problem most builders wouldn't bother with. It is no coincidence that Alden Yachts interiors are second to none. Gammon, which has been delivered to her proud owners, can be seen this summer and for many years to come cruising the Chesapeake.
