Christening Ceremony for Avocet, Alden Yachts Second Epoxy Composit Sailing Yacht Date: June 30, 2002
On Friday, April 26th, at the Alden Yachts facility in Portsmouth Rhode Island, Chip and Priscilla Hanafee celebrated the christening of "Avocet", their new Alden Yachts 54' aft cockpit sailing yacht. As is the custom with each yacht launched, the Alden Yachts production staff -- laminators, woodworkers, mechanics, engineers, everyone involved in the building of the yacht -- was on hand to share in the festivities. Presiding over the ceremony was David MacFarlane, President of Alden Yachts. Doing the honors of the traditional breaking of a champagne bottle on the bow was Priscilla, her second such christening of a new Alden Yachts sailboat in the last nine years. The Hanafees had previously taken delivery on a 45' sloop in 1993, also named "Avocet". Gifts were exchanged between staff and the new owners; custom shirts and hats sporting Avocet's logo were provided by the Hanafees; and a half model of Avocet was presented by David Macfarlane to Chip and Priscilla. "Avocet" is Alden Yacht's second epoxy composite 54' sloop and hull #17 in the 54' series. For more information contact Alden Yachts at 401.683.4200 or email at pressrelease@aldenyachts.com |
