Alden Yachts Launches New 44 Flybridge Express Date: March 1, 2002 Hot on the heels of their latest sailboat, Alden Yachts has launched Tonic, a 44' Flybridge Express. The first in the Alden Yachts 40-44-46 Express series to have a flybridge and enclosed saloon, Tonic was a much-anticipated launch. With her classic New England lines, trademark Alden Yachts craftsmanship, and state-of-the-art electronics, Tonic will turn heads wherever she goes. Tonic's hull was built to conform to Alden Yachts' demanding standards of excellence. The vacuum-bagged hull laminate consists of an outer layer of isopthalic gelcoat with an outer skin of vinylester barrier resin with balsa core. The inner skin of the hull consists of a stitched unidirectional roving. A FRP lateral and transverse beam stringer system is used to fortify the hull and to support the boat's structures and engines. Alden Yachts' standard exterior finish is the Awl Grip® paint system creating a long-lasting, high-gloss finish on the hull. The hull comes with a 10-year warranty against osmotic blistering. Powered by twin Caterpillar 3176's, Tonic has a cruising speed of 27 knots, and during trials achieved her top speed of 33 knots. Servicing the 600 H.P. Caterpillars is no problem in Tonic's spacious, bright, and well-designed engine room. Alden Yachts designers have created an engine room with quick, easy access to most points on the engines. Stainless steel grab rails provide stable support when moving around inside the engine room. The cockpit has teak decking, twin aft fiberglass bench seats, and ample room creating a pleasant area to sit and relax. Split cockpit hatches provide access to the lazaret. Tonic's 12KW generator, supplying the boat with more than enough power, is located in the lazaret with convenient access from all sides. Tonic's flybridge provides the owner with an excellent vantagepoint to easily see everything around him. Two Pompanette seats are at the helm, and a bench seat is located behind them. The owner chose a green tinted venturi glass that nicely accentuates the rest of the flybridge. A collapsible Bimini, which covers the whole flybridge, can be raised and lowered with little effort. The main saloon is Tonic's focal point. Beautifully finished with Alden Yachts' fine craftsmanship, the main saloon serves as an indoor pilot house and entertainment center. Port and starboard seats allow several people to comfortably sit and view through the forward windshield. The starboard helm seat and cherry helm console accent the helm station and match the rest of the interior woodwork nicely. The port seat has a large chart table with two openings for storage. Aft of each helm seat is a settee. The port settee is straight and ends at the aft entertainment center cabinet. The starboard settee is L-shaped and provides comfortable seating for four. Satin-varnished cherry bulkheads and Alden Yachts' standard teak and holly sole can be found throughout the main saloon as well as the rest of the boat. A center companionway provides access to the below deck spaces of the boat. To port is Tonic's functional galley. With an extremely large refrigerator, a three-burner stove and microwave oven, the galley is perfect for preparing any size meal. A large pantry to starboard is perfect for storing large quantities of dry goods. Directly across from the galley is Tonic's guest cabin. Fitted with upper and lower berths, the guest cabin also has a chest of drawers and hanging locker. Two people can comfortably sleep and store their gear in this spacious guest cabin. Just forward of the guest cabin is a separate shower stall. By separating the shower locker from the port side head, the 44 arrangement provides both an exceptionally large shower and head for a vessel this size. Equipped with a bench seat, the shower locker also has a hanging locker for foul weather gear storage. The port side head includes a large cherry-framed mirror with Alden Yachts' deep luster wood counter top and underhung sink. The
owner's cabin features a centerline island berth with access from each
side. Beneath the berth is a large storage area. At the foot of the
berth are large double drawers. A hanging locker to port and a chest
of drawers with a locker on top to starboard provide the owner with
a great deal of room for gear. For more information contact Alden Yachts at 401.683.4200 or email at pressrelease@aldenyachts.com |
