Alden Yachts has announced a new design to be called the Brenton Reef 40. The Brenton Reef will be a modified deep V hull driven by twin Yanmar 370 HP diesels. The concept is a no-nonsense, fast-cruising, family powerboat with limited choices of interior layout and customization.

"By standardizing our construction methods and offering this boat fully equipped and ready to go, we are able to offer substantial savings over our traditional line of custom yachts", assures David MacFarlane, the Company's President. "The Brenton Reef will be built to the same high standard of engineering, fit, and finish that has always distinguished Alden Yachts, but we want to simplify the building process for the customer by making many of the more obvious decisions for them. We have confidence that our experience will permit us to do this in a yacht of this size."

The Brenton Reef will come with full electronics, GPS, radar, generator, autopilot, entertainment center with flat screen TV, refrigeration, microwave, in fact the only optional equipment not included in the $647,300. price will be air conditioning, water maker and a bow thruster since these may not be desired by some clients. Larger engines may also be fit to give her a top speed well in excess of 30 knots.

In order to make the Brenton Reef as much at home in tropical waters as in New England she will have no exterior varnished teak. The prop shafts and props will be fitted within tunnels in the hull to increase the boats shoal draft capability. Light enough to push away from the dock and yet rugged enough to run comfortably in heavy seas, this "go anywhere" fast family cruiser has enough room down below to live aboard in comfort.

"Value was the driving principle behind this project and we are very excited to be able to offer one of our yachts to a larger segment of the boating market. This is a new approach for us" MacFarlane adds, "increased attention to 'value' complimenting our traditional focus on quality, function, and aesthetics."

As with all Alden Yachts, the hull will be built in E-glass and Kevlar using epoxy resins throughout and will be triple vacuum bagged and post thermal cured. Great pains will be taken, as usual, to keep noise levels to the absolute minimum. The hull will be painted in the owner's choice of Awlgrip color.
